The Village of Key Biscayne is governed by a seven member Village Council, formerly called the Board of Trustees. Council members are elected at large and on a non-partisan basis. The Council, as a legislative body, establishes policy and appoints a Village Manager who is responsible for administrating policy and managing the Village's departments and services.

  • Village Council elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November of every even numbered year.
  • Each Councilmember is elected at-large by Village electors.
  • The Mayor is elected for a two-year term.
  • Each Councilmember is elected to a four-year term according to a Charter amendment enacted on April 11, 2006. Previously, terms of office were two years. To accomplish the transition from two- to four-year terms by 2008, the top three finishers in the 2006 elections were awarded four-year terms, and the next three finishers were awarded two-year terms.
